there’s a book from my childhood that i adored, but i’ve never met anyone else who’s read it, so sometimes it feels like i dreamt the whole thing (although thankfully wikipedia tells me otherwise). it was about a prince called Macius who had to take over the throne after his parents died. it was difficult and sad and not silly as one might have thought at all, and in the end the adults’ thirst for power and hatred led Macius to hide on a remote island. just thinking about this pearl makes me blue, and reading about the author just… yeah. thank you childhood for this punch in the gut. do you have any books like that?
